Mark Twain Lake and Clearance Cannon Dam

The 2,775-acre park is located in the Salt River Hills. The park offers picnic areas, two four-lane boat ramps, a beach, and more than six miles of hiking trails with scenic views of the lake.

Mark Twain Birthplace Historical Site
“Recently someone in Missouri has sent me a picture of the house I was born in. Heretofore I have always stated it was a palace, but I shall be more guarded now.” Written by Mark Twain
The shrine contains the two-room 1830’s cabin Samuel Langhorne Clemens was born in. Also in the shrine is the handwritten manuscript of “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.” A must see when you are in northern Missouri.

Union Covered Bridge
Union Covered Bridge, built in 1871, is the only one of the four that represents the Burr-arch truss design. It served travelers in Monroe County for 99 years and remains an important structure in the area’s history.
Mark Twain Museum
The museum consists of Mark Twain’s Boyhood Home, Huckleberry Finn House, Becky Thatcher House, J.M. Clemens Justice of the Peace Office, and Grant’s Drug Store. These buildings set the stage for the many stories Mark Twain wrote.
